Heat pump rebate
National Heat Pump Rebate: a Calgary homeowner’s guide
By Gencon Contracting · Updated

What the rebate pays, and who it is for
The National Heat Pump Rebate will pay $2,000, or up to $10,000 for households below the median income.
It is for electric cold-climate air-source heat pumps on the government’s Eligible Products List, which will offer over 100,000 options. Eligibility goes by model, not by brand.
- No energy audits are required, before or after the install.
- Only one rebate is issued per person: a landlord who claims it for a rental property cannot also claim it for their own home.
- It can be combined with existing provincial programs.
How applying works
You apply, and you are paid. These are the steps the government has announced.
- Apply on the government’s secure online portal with basic personal information and the details of the eligible heat pump you plan to buy.
- The program confirms approval within 24 hours.
- Buy and install the pre-approved heat pump.
- Upload your receipts through the portal.
- Payment is approved within five days.
What is not confirmed yet
Announced on October 8, 2026, and not open yet. No launch date has been announced, though officials have said they expect early 2027.
These details are still to come:
- The launch date.
- Whether heat pumps installed before the program opens will qualify.
- The Eligible Products List of qualifying models.
- The median-income threshold for the larger rebate.
- Any requirements for installers.
