Sheet metal and ductwork in Calgary
Custom fabrication and ductwork for spiral, rectangular, and specialty ventilation.
- Custom fabrication
- Spiral & rectangular duct
- RTU/MUA installation
- Exhaust & ventilation
What we deliver
From full spiral-duct networks to one-off ventilation housings, Gencon fabricates and installs sheet metal to fit the building it serves. Cleanroom air handling, arena ventilation, rooftop stacks, and exhaust packages all come out of the same shop discipline: measure, fabricate, fit, seal.
Duct carries the air an HVAC design calls for, but only when it is sized, routed, and sealed to match. We plan our sheet metal work with the equipment it connects: rooftop units, make-up air, exhaust fans, and the air handlers above a ceiling. House ductwork is part of our HVAC service.

How we work
From estimate to walkthrough.
- 01
Estimate
A journeyman measures the space, the equipment connections, and the routes the duct can take.
- 02
Plan
Duct sizes and routes follow the HVAC design, and we sequence the work with the ceiling, framing, and roof.
- 03
Build
We fabricate to fit, then hang, connect, and seal the duct.
- 04
Walkthrough
We check the connections and supports with you before the system is balanced.
Permits and codes
What applies in Calgary.
The agreed scope sets out the permits that apply and who is responsible for each inspection. Requirements outside Calgary should be confirmed with the local authority.
- In Calgary, all heating, ventilating and air conditioning installations in new buildings and renovations need a mechanical permit, and that permit includes any major additions or alterations to the related ductwork.
- The City issues mechanical permits to qualified HVAC contractors; a homeowner cannot take out a mechanical permit on their house.
- Work that needs inspection stays open until it is inspected: the City asks that no insulation, vapour barrier or drywall go over it before then.
- Alberta’s codes in force include the National Building Code – 2023 Alberta Edition and the National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings 2020, both since May 1, 2024.

What drives the cost
An accurate price needs a property-specific scope. These details move it most:
- Duct size and length, and the number of fittings and transitions
- Custom fabrication compared with standard parts
- Height and access: lifts, ceilings, and rooftops
- Insulation and sealing
- Fire separations the duct has to pass through
- Crane lifts for rooftop equipment
What affects the timeline
The schedule is confirmed after the scope has been assessed. These details shape it:
- Fabrication time for custom pieces
- Coordination with the ceiling, framing, and other trades in the space
- Rooftop access and weather
- Inspections before ceilings close
Do you fabricate custom pieces?
Yes. Custom fabrication is part of the work, from transitions and housings to one-off ventilation units, like the custom unit hung high on an arena wall in our project library.
Do you do ductwork in houses?
House ductwork is part of our HVAC service, alongside the furnace, air conditioning, and ventilation work it connects.
