Electrical services in Calgary
Wiring, panels, lighting, and power distribution for buildings and renovations of every size.
- Panel installs & upgrades
- Wiring & circuits
- Lighting systems
- Equipment power
What we deliver
From panelboard installs with clean, documented circuits to lighting layouts and dedicated equipment power, Gencon delivers electrical work coordinated with the trades around it. Equipment power connections are handled by the same team.
A lot of electrical work exists to serve something else: a heat pump or furnace, a garage heater, a rooftop unit, or a renovation with the walls open for a short time. When one team plans the electrical with the trades that depend on it, the circuits are in before the equipment arrives and before the walls close.

How we work
From estimate to walkthrough.
- 01
Estimate
A journeyman checks the panel, the service size, and the circuits you have, and what the new equipment or space needs.
- 02
Plan
The scope sets out the loads, the circuit routes, and the electrical permit, planned with the mechanical work that depends on them.
- 03
Build
Our crews run the wiring, install the panel or lighting, and make the equipment connections.
- 04
Walkthrough
We label and document the circuits and go over the panel directory with you.
Permits and codes
What applies in Calgary.
The agreed scope sets out the permits that apply and who is responsible for each inspection. Requirements outside Calgary should be confirmed with the local authority.
- In Calgary, all electrical installations in new or renovated buildings need an electrical permit before the work begins. New wiring and changes to existing branch circuits need one; replacing a light fixture alone does not.
- A homeowner permit does not cover the main service, panel, main breaker or meter base, or the wiring for an air conditioner or an EV charger. Electrical contractors cannot work under a homeowner’s permit; they take out their own.
- Increasing the main service from 60, 100 or 200 amps means contacting ENMAX, which restricts electrical contractors from handling meters. The City says to contact ENMAX before work begins.
- Alberta’s electrical code is CSA C22.1-24, the Canadian Electrical Code (26th Edition), in force since April 1, 2025.

What drives the cost
An accurate price needs a property-specific scope. These details move it most:
- The size of your electrical service, and whether it needs an upgrade
- Space in the panel for new breakers
- Wire runs: the distance, and how much finished wall or ceiling is in the way
- The fixtures, devices, and equipment connections the work includes
- Permits and inspections
What affects the timeline
The schedule is confirmed after the scope has been assessed. These details shape it:
- Permit and inspection scheduling
- ENMAX scheduling, when the main service changes
- Panel and equipment availability
- The schedule of the trades the electrical work serves
Will a heat pump or garage heater need a panel upgrade?
Sometimes. As the City notes, a home can only take so much added load before its service needs an upgrade. It depends on the size of your service, what is already on the panel, and what the new equipment draws. We check the panel as part of the estimate.
Who contacts ENMAX about a service upgrade?
Your contractor. The City asks homeowners to have their electrician contact ENMAX when the main service must be increased, and to do it before work begins.
Can the electrical work be scheduled with my other trades?
Yes. Under one contract, we plan the electrical with the mechanical and interior work it serves, so the power is ready when the equipment is.
