Commercial refrigeration in Calgary
Commercial refrigeration systems installed, serviced, and kept running.
- Condensing units
- Refrigerant piping
- System diagnostics
- Preventive maintenance
What we deliver
Gencon installs and services commercial refrigeration, including condensing units, refrigerant piping, electrical connections, and controls. Our team diagnoses faults and carries out repairs to keep the equipment running.
Most refrigeration work can be planned: a new system, a replacement before the old one fails, an expansion, or maintenance on a schedule. With a plan, we can have the equipment, refrigerant piping, power, and controls ready together, and fit the work around your business.
Refrigeration also depends on the trades around it. Our team brings the electrical connections and controls into the same scope, so one contractor answers for the whole system.

How we work
From estimate to walkthrough.
- 01
Estimate
A journeyman looks at the equipment, where it sits, the power and controls that serve it, and how your operation uses it.
- 02
Plan
Equipment, refrigerant piping, power, and controls are planned together, and the work is scheduled around how your business runs.
- 03
Build
Our crews set the equipment, run the refrigerant piping, and make the electrical and control connections.
- 04
Walkthrough
We check that the system runs as intended and go over the controls and maintenance with your staff.
Permits and codes
What applies in Calgary.
The agreed scope sets out the permits that apply and who is responsible for each inspection. Requirements outside Calgary should be confirmed with the local authority.
- In Alberta, CSA B52, the Mechanical Refrigeration Code, is in force under the Pressure Equipment Safety Regulation. The edition in force is the 2023 edition with Update No. 1.
- ABSA, the Alberta Boilers Safety Association, enforces the parts of CSA B52 that cover pressure equipment: pressure vessels, pressure piping, fittings and safety relief devices. Machinery rooms fall under the building discipline.
- A refrigeration system with a refrigerating capacity of 10.5 kW or less is exempt from the regulation, and its pressure equipment components need no design registration.
- Only people authorized under Alberta’s Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act may service equipment that contains a halocarbon refrigerant, and releasing refrigerant into the environment is prohibited.

What drives the cost
An accurate price needs a property-specific scope. These details move it most:
- The capacity and type of equipment
- Distance and routing for the refrigerant piping
- Power and controls the new equipment needs
- Access: rooftop or mechanical-room locations, and crane lifts
- Work that has to happen outside business hours
What affects the timeline
The schedule is confirmed after the scope has been assessed. These details shape it:
- Equipment lead times
- Permits, inspections, and any registration the system needs
- Fitting the work around your operation and your product
- Crane and rooftop access
Do you offer preventive maintenance?
Yes. Preventive maintenance is part of our refrigeration service. Tell us about your equipment, and we can plan the visits around your operation.
Can you replace a system before it fails?
Yes. A planned replacement lets the new equipment, piping, power, and controls be ready before the old system comes out.
Good work starts with a conversation.
Tell us about your project. We’ll help you put the right scope and the right trades together.
